Therefore, a suitable infrastructure is mandatory to win in today’s highly competitive global business market. Learn more about how well-structured cabling can fuel your business efficiency.
Importance of Structured Cabling in Business
Businesses are now implementing more advanced applications onto their network systems as data inputs and voice and video feeds. You must go for a structured cabling system that helps you meet the ever-increasing demands of the latest network cabling requirements.
One of the significant advantages of having structured cabling in your firm is that you can count on its high level of straightforwardness. Many business firms deploy various IT equipment and related devices for their operations. Using a structured cabling system, you can minimise the complexities of setting up multiple wiring infrastructures for devices in a single place. Moreover, you can quickly resolve any technical glitches with the help of effective cabling and networking solutions and reduce the downtime required for troubleshooting.
Structured network cabling will be a cost-effective requisite for your business firm. A highly flexible and scalable network will ensure the uninterrupted flow of information and quickly enable you to cope with the considerable demands. This will boost productivity and become a significant drive for your success. Structured network cabling is also very helpful in minimising power consumption and maintenance costs. You can consider it a highly beneficial future investment to ensure your firm keeps up with the ever-evolving and dynamic global business environment. Your business infrastructure will be able to support all the expected future technologies without you going for any costly replacements or upgrades.
Adaptability
The core technological concept of structured cabling and networking solutions is fast adaptability, resulting in higher business returns. From data storage and transfer to massive call volumes and high-resolution video conferencing capabilities, everything will be effectively taken care of.

The Six Subsystems
The six subsystems of structured cabling are:
- Entrance Facilities (EF): EF telecom facilities operated by a private service network or local service provider enter a residence or office building from the exterior via a conduit on the wall. This type of structured cable network system is deployed along with connection points, hardware connectors, power supplies, equipment racks, patch panels, and grounding and lightning protection devices.
- Backbone or Riser Cabling: Backbone Cabling is installed with the help of vertical channels or risers for connecting to separate floors. There are also two subsystems: Cabling Subsystem 2 and Cabling Subsystem 3.
- Telecommunications Room (TR) & Telecommunications Enclosure (TE): You don’t require horizontal and backbone cables for the network cabling hardware in TR and TE. On the other hand, local cables, namely Jumpers or Patch Cords, are deployed on the channels for cross-connection with different cables.
- Equipment Room (ER): ER is where you can see the entrance cabling connected to the network infrastructure inside your building. The ER cabling network has patch panels that provide seamless connectivity with intermediate, horizontal, and backbone cabling capabilities. ER is also where PBXs, network switches, and other cabling network devices are placed. ER networking should be done in an environmentally safe space to ensure safe temperature and humidity levels compatible with the vendor’s equipment specifications.
- Work Area (WA): WA is where a cabling network connects to your devices from a wall outlet through a jack or connector.
- Horizontal Cabling (Cabling System 1): This horizontal cabling, also known as cabling system 1, enables users in their work area to avail glitch-free functionality on their devices. The cable network connects your devices and TR on the same building floor.
